Convergence of Pharmacy & the Health Equity Index in 2024 and Beyond

Triple-weighted medication adherence measures will heavily influence the subset of measures included in the Health Equity Index (HEI) starting in measurement years 2024-2025 for the 2027 Medicare Advantage Star Rating Period. Is your plan prepared to meet these requirements?

Under the HEI, plans will be rewarded for assessing social risk factors and addressing disparities in certain quality measures, including medication adherence. Plans not meeting the HEI requirements will be penalized with lower ratings and likely withstand a severe hit to their bottom line.

Plans must act now to identify disparities in populations with social risks and create intervention strategies to address these inequities. The HEI will require two years of data before 2027.

  • Identify social risk factors that hurt medication adherence.
  • Implement a social needs screening in an adherence program.
  • Assess specialized social risk outreach on adherence
